”And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season…”  Psalm 1:3a

”That they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.”  Isaiah 61:3b

Another hike in the park reminds me that it won’t be long before the last of the yellow and orange colors of fall drop from their places to form the brown blanket of winter.  It looks like something is wrong with creation, but it’s not.  This has been God’s pattern for thousands of years (Genesis 1:14).

The changing of seasons can remind us of what God is doing inside each of us.  Solomon wrote, “To everything there is a season…” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)  Do you ever examine your life to discover which season God has placed you in at that moment?

I can remember the winter times – when a cold, dark blanket of heaviness and discouragement had settled on everything.  It was so wonderful when a season of opportunity
finally broke through.

Do you remember brighter days when the wind was at your back and you were full of energy?  The season of spring gives way to summer… the time of waiting.  We all go through the periods when everything seems to be in a holding pattern. Thankfully, there’s autumn – the last season, the time for reaping.  Fall is my favorite season, but it can’t always be fall… there has to be a balance of all the seasons.

When you look out your window and it begins to look like everything is dying and when it feels like you’re right in the middle of autumn, just remember that seasons come and go, but God never changes. And just because a tree loses its leaves doesn’t mean it’s dying – in fact, it’s still growing!  When life starts changing and the scenery grows less colorful, we don’t have to give up.  Let’s keep growing right where God has planted us… that He might be glorified!
